2024: money received vs. money spent

Page 6 of the 2024 report prints two numbers per category without saying which is which.E8 The second numbers add to exactly $11,561,531, the expense total on page 5,E7 so they are spending. The first add to within $900 of page 5's donation total, so they are money received. calculated

How to read this chart
  1. Each category has two bars: light is money received, dark is money spent.
  2. Dark longer than light means the category spent more than it raised. Something else paid the difference.
  3. Worked example: Headquarters. Light bar $2,646,835, dark bar $3,355,940. Subtract: $709,105 came from somewhere the report does not name.
Headquarters spent $709,105 more than it received in 2024, while new construction and relief funds took in far more than they spent.

What ADAMS owns & owes, Dec 31, 2024

A balance sheet is a snapshot, like a photo of a household's bank accounts, house and loans on one day.E9

Cash$8,932,800
Buildings and land (fixed assets)$15,807,667
Total assets$27,155,006
Total liabilities (owed)$847,792
At the end of 2024 ADAMS owned ~$27.2M and owed ~$0.85M. ~$8.9M of what it owned was cash.

With ~$8.9M in cash at the end of 2024, members can fairly ask how much of it is construction money held for branches, how much is unspent relief or zakat, and how much is general reserves. The report does not say.

Gainesville in ADAMS's own slides

Figures from the slides shown at the January 10, 2026 Gainesville town hall,E25 set beside the later town hall slide.E23 Slide 7 says the January figures "are estimates approved by ADAMS BOT and BOC."

January's slides projected $92,000 of operating costs for 2026. A later slide shows an annual operating budget of $377,598.

ONE ADAMS: the August 2026 town hall deck

Figures from the "ONE ADAMS" financial town hall deck, shown at a meeting and not released publicly by ADAMS.E29 Every figure marked calculated shows its formula when you hover or tap it, and all the formulas are listed at the end of this section.

Where HQ's $4.97M comes from: $410,000 is branch contributions. The other ~$4.56M has no named source in the deck: where does it come from? Q33 It is marked ~ because it is calculated from two amounts the deck gives rounded.
Branch contributions $410,000No named source in the deck ~$4.56M calculated

All 6 branches contribute 10% to HQ expenses$410,000
No named source in the deck calculated~$4,560,000
HQ annual expenses$4,970,000
How lean is "lean"? The $508,000 per branch leaves out HQ. With HQ included it is ~$1.51M per branch. Figures marked ~ are calculated from amounts the deck gives rounded, so they are approximate.

The deck says "5 Branches" on this slide and "6 branches" elsewhere. Its own totals, $2.5M against $6.5M, are 61.5% leaner, not 75%. calculated The 75% matches $508,000 against $2M, which is 74.6%. calculated What is the source of the $2M benchmark? Q36

Three versions of 2025

  • Annual report: $16.2M income, $14.0M expenses, $2.2M net.E12
  • August deck, "2025 Budget" chart with no units: bars add to ~14 raised and ~13 spent. calculatedE29
  • Then, for 2026: a projected $2.3M shortfall on a $13.4M budget.E29

Where did the 2025 surplus go? Q35

The math is missing ~$4M

Funds raised across branches, $4.1M, plus HQ expenses, $4.97M, come to ~$9.07M. calculated The same deck gives a "$13,000,000+ Annual Budget".E29 That leaves ~$3.93M not shown. calculated

What is the remaining ~$4M? Q34

Every branch got the same slide

  • Ashburn: "Ashburn's Contribution 2.7%". $31,549 ÷ $1.15M is 2.74%. calculatedE29
  • Gainesville: 1.53%. $17,600 ÷ $1.15M.E23

Both slides carry the title "The Branch Is Covering Its Costs — But Is It Contributing to the Bigger Gap?"

The year-to-date shortfall of $1.15M is exactly half the $2.3M projected shortfall. calculatedE29

How each calculated figure was worked out

The deck gives its amounts rounded (for example 4.97M), so every result below is approximate.

  • HQ expenses with no named source: 4.97M − 0.41M = 4.56M
  • Branch funds plus HQ expenses: 4.1M + 4.97M = 9.07M
  • Budget not shown in those two figures: 13.0M − 9.07M = 3.93M
  • Per branch including HQ: 9.07M ÷ 6 = 1.51M
  • Whole budget per branch: 13.0M ÷ 6 = 2.2M
  • "Leaner" from the deck's totals: 1 − 2.5M ÷ 6.5M = 61.5%
  • "Leaner" from $508K against $2M: 1 − 508,000 ÷ 2,000,000 = 74.6%
  • Ashburn's share: 31,549 ÷ 1,150,000 = 2.74%
  • Gainesville's share: 17,600 ÷ 1,150,000 = 1.53%
  • "2025 Budget" chart: 3 + 2 + 3 + 6 = 14 raised; 5 + 2 + 3 + 3 = 13 spent
  • Shortfalls: 1.15M × 2 = 2.3M
Quick checkHeadquarters received ~$2.6M and spent ~$3.4M in 2024. What is the one question to ask?Tap to see the answer

Which funds covered the $709,105 difference? If purpose-given donations were used, donors were never told. That is question Q5.

Takeaway

ADAMS's numbers show large sums moving between categories, and a large cash balance, without saying which donations funded what. That is the information an audit and fund-level reporting would provide.
